Sound familiar?

The information is out there. Just never when, or where, you need it.

They came through without you.

The warblers passed through on their way north, and you heard about it after they had gone.

The bloom you missed.

You went looking for the wildflowers the weekend after they peaked, and found only leaves.

The packet said one thing.

The seed packet gave one date for the whole country. Your state, and your zone, had other plans.

You heard about it at breakfast.

The meteor shower peaked last night under a dark sky, and the first you knew of it was someone else’s photo.

Nature runs on dates and places. The Birch Year Club hands you both, for the birds, the wildflowers, the garden and the sky, in every state we cover.

No yard required. The sky is the same over a balcony, a campsite or a school field, and the guides cover every state we make them for. And if you do have a yard: your yard has a year. This is it, written down for your place.

Why now

The year outside is already under way.

Every month brings something new to watch for where you live. Here is this month in your state, and the next big nights in the sky.

October in Texas

October is the best all-around nature month in Texas: the monarch migration peaks, wintering birds arrive in force, the first fall color touches the east and the Hill Country, and the cooled-off weather finally makes being outside a pleasure again.

See October in Texas

The next big nights

  1. October 21

    The Orionids

Peaks around October 21, with a bright moon, about 74% lit, so only the brightest show.

  2. November 5

    The Southern Taurids

Peaks around November 5, with the moon about 16% lit.

  3. November 12

    The Northern Taurids

Peaks around November 12, with a dark sky: the moon about 8% lit.

Each one is in your state’s night sky guide and ranked in The 2027 Sky Year. Peaks are given around a date, as they move by up to a day from year to year; the moon is computed.

Built on the public record

48 states and Washington, D.C. Twelve months each. Every page sourced.

  • Moon phases and the moon at every shower peak, computed with standard astronomical algorithms.
  • Meteor shower dates from the International Meteor Organization’s working list.
  • Each month’s birds hand-checked against state checklists and regional references.
  • Native plants checked against recorded occurrences in each state, so a guide only suggests plants recorded growing there.
  • Every guide names its sources on its own pages, and the corrections log and methodology are public.

Questions

Before you join.

I don’t have a yard. Is this still for me?

Yes. The sky is the same over a balcony or a campsite, and the guides cover every state we make them for, so the membership travels with you.

How do I cancel?

On your account page, one click turns renewal off. Your membership runs to the end of the year you paid for, and nothing more is charged.

What if it is not for me?

Full refund within 30 days of joining or renewing. Email us from the address you joined with; no reason needed.

Do I keep what I download?

Yes. A guide you downloaded is yours to keep and print for yourself and your family, as with any guide we sell. New downloads stop if a membership ends.

I already bought a guide. What changes?

Nothing you bought goes away. Your account page lists every guide bought with your address, with fresh links, beside the whole library.

Do members pay less in the shop?

Yes. Member prices are 12% off across the whole shop, prints, calendars, books and apparel included, shown beside every price and applied at checkout once you are signed in.

How does the promotional credit work?

$20 of promotional credit is added when your membership starts and at each renewal, and is ready to spend once the 30-day refund window has passed. Every order you pay for earns more: up to 5% of a printed order, each product showing its own amount beside its member price, ready 30 days after the order. The guides in the library are already yours, so they cost nothing and earn nothing. Credit spends at checkout on anything in the shop, on top of member prices, though member prices do not combine with other discount codes (the larger one applies). It is promotional credit, not cash: it has no cash value and cannot be refunded or transferred, and the terms page carries the details.

Is there an app to install?

No. The guides are PDFs that open on any phone or computer and print beautifully, and your account is a page on this site.

What if I move, or travel?

Every state we make guides for is in the library, so the move or the trip is covered the day you get there.

How do I sign in?

With your email address. We send a six-digit code that lasts 15 minutes; there is no password to remember.

The terms and the privacy page say exactly what a membership is and what we keep.
