Missouri Nature Guide

Missouri sits where the prairies of the Great Plains, the hardwood forests of the East, and the southern lowlands of the Mississippi all meet, and the Ozark Plateau adds dolomite glades and clear spring-fed rivers to the mix. That collision of regions gives the state an unusually full nature calendar — from the million-bird snow goose spectacle at Loess Bluffs in winter to glade wildflowers, prairie-chicken booming grounds, and Bootheel swamp warblers in spring and summer.
